Another Earthquake
July 25, 2008
Since the big earthquake in June there have been several more in the northern region here with the one last Thursday being the biggest. According to the USGS, the earthquakes in the past week have mostly been in the ocean with the exception of the Thursday one [two].
Like in Kanto (Tokyo), there is a major earthquake (Miyagi Oki) that happens around Sendai every 25 to 40 years. That means that the area is due ...
I'm almost getting used to feeling earthquakes, but the problem I'm having now is that I am feeling shaking when there is none; or maybe there is but I can't tell if it's real or not.
I wonder if it is because of how my apartment is constructed. I know that the architecture is different here with buildings designed specifically to withstand earthquakes, but I'm not sure that I'm supposed to feel every little tremor.
By the way, I got my drivers license.
Ugh ... I'll have to work on my Inkscape avatar a little more.

Wow, these earthquakes are getting to be so regular it is frightening to think about. I have never experienced a severe one, being in WI, USA....we had a very small one in the late eighties.
Stay safe, and congrats on the driver's license. I don't think my aunt ever got hers when she was over there.
It scared the sh*t out of me. The wife didn't notice anything!
Tom, there are tremors constantly, because we have them here in the valley, living so close to the San Andreas Faultline. In fact, I believe that there are as many as 2000 daily. That would be a good one for you to check out Mr. T.
Firstly, congratulations on getting your driver's license.
I have seen documentaries on how they must construct buildings in such a way, in earthquake prone areas; it is amazing what they need to take into account in their building architecture, planning and calculations. I do hope your apartment has been constructed to withstand the earthquake.
Congratulations, Tom!
Scary with the earthquakes... I've never experienced one, they are very, very rare here in Sweden.
@ Sassy: Hopefully the earthquakes are just burping and letting off enough pressure to avert a major one.
@ Contamination: My wife noticed before I did. This one wasn't as bad here as the one last month, but I was ready to bolt.
@ Mom: The last time I was in CA there was a tremor that felt like a freight train was passing by. Now that I live here, I feel that everyday.
@ Marie: The buildings are very well constructed. Maybe the absence of insulation makes them more flexible.
@ Peter: Thanks! I had never felt one until I came to Japan.
